Write What Comes Freely

Making My Present Known

As a writer not yet well known, the internet has given me the tool I need to express myself. I am still looking for my own niche as to what kind of writer I want to be. I’m still looking for my own voice. I have explored new waters and challenged my own intelligence. The world has yet to hear the last of me. As I make my present known, I am trying my hand at writing fan fiction. I found a site that wants stories based on other already written media such as poetry, books, movies, and television shows. I discovered the demand for fan fiction after reading comments posted on a social network site by the fans of my favorite classic western, The Virginian.

My Pen Name

I started to write my own episode and was amazed at how easy the words had come to me on my first attempt. I introduced a new main character to the series thinking this would make it true fan fiction and would not just be repeating ideas of the original writers. I then started looking for a place to post my story. I found a site called Fan Fiction at www.fanfiction.net. It required registering with a pen name. I did not want to use the user name I use for Hub Pages. I did not want to use my given name either. I needed a new idea. A name perhaps to be used in future episodes. A name I could promote as a writer of a brand new western story of my own making someday. After thinking on this awhile I decided to take the name of my new character I developed in my first fan fiction episode of The Virginian. After all, the words have been flowing freely as I write this stuff. There has to be a reason why after long periods of blank pages trying to write something worth reading, I can master a western television story without much effort. My new pen name is Dee Grainger.

Welcome Comments-Get Exposure-Value Advice

Fan Fiction has a sister site called Fiction Press at www.fictionpress.com. I am using the same pen name on that site. I have not posted there yet, but I know it will be a great outlet for my future attempts at fiction. I know I need all the exposure I can get to keep people reading my stories. I value all their comments and reviews both good and bad. The larger my audience becomes the better my chances are at becoming a well known author. I already have my own fans. Family, friends, and co-workers have encouraged me to write more. But I know they most likely are only being kind. With the connection of these internet sites to social network sites like www.facebook.com, I can gather the opinion of critiques from all over the world. I have met other writers, some of which are well known and have given me great advice. I hope to meet more people like them. The more talented well known people I can surround myself with the better.
